Hi! I’m Nancy Nielsen. I’m a retired film producer from Los Angeles who moved to Santa Fe 7 years ago with my family. Two passions that have occupied the lion’s share of my time here are MUSIC and COMMUNITY SERVICE.
The idea for Santa Fe Buzz began last year when I was performing with my jazz quartet out in the patio at Rio Chama Steakhouse. An increasing number of interesting, fun-loving people came out to see us each week as the summer progressed. I SO appreciated our audience - I wanted to acknowledge the people who were supporting us - and let them know how much they meant to me and my success as a singer. Late one night I had an idea: Grab the digital camera, go out and take pictures of the audience!
I asked permission from the management and we snapped away every Thursday night for a few weeks. We posted the photos on a website, sent out an e-mail campaign and got a PHENOMENAL response! People enjoyed seeing themselves having a good time. The question that came up for me was how could I take this basic concept and apply it to a greater purpose? The answer came immediately: Tie it in with the Santa Fe Non-profit community and celebrate people’s good works.
My involvement in the charity world began 7 years ago with a commitment to the Buckaroo Ball. Since then I have served on several local boards and headed the fund-granting committee on Buckaroo for 2 of those years. In this position, I had the opportunity to see the heartfelt commitment of hundreds of individuals and organizations that do phenomenal work. They truly deserve to be acknowledged.
But we have no home base for publicizing the results of these Herculean efforts the photos, the money raised, the winning bids at auctions, the thank-you’s to everyone who makes these events possible. Voila. The birth of Santa Fe Buzz.
Since putting the idea out to a handful of community leaders, we’ve gotten an enthusiastic response. I’ve invited local event photographers to participate with Buzz. We’ve been asked to create a planning calendar specifically for fundraising events a service we will provide cost-free to all non-profits who wish to participate. We’ll also be providing additional promotions and services for charities. And, hopefully, we’ll entertain you in the process.
