Red Carpet Gala Weekend Honors Film and Filmmakers
CSF’s fifteenth annual Red Carpet Gala attracted upwards of 400 Santa Feans to the Rosemarie Shellaberger Tennis Center on March 5 to take part in a silent auction, ballot voting for Oscar winners, a gourmet dinner catered by Bon Appetit and of course to watch the seventy-eighth annual Academy Awards on the big screen. This high-profile fundraiser and cultivation effort of the college showcased the talents of CSF Moving Image Arts students via monitors playing the department’s newest creative offering, De-Ranged, a DVD collection of student work, and attracted such local famous faces as United States Congressman Tom Udall.
On Friday, March 3, CSF hosted a reception for the first annual Bill Richardson Film Achievement Awards in Studio 1 at the Garson Communications Center. Approximately 80 guests celebrated the new award with college administration and such local politicians as New Mexico State Representative Jim Trujillo (’61) and his wife, Victoria (’66)(profiled this issue) as well as Ben D. Altarnarano, president pro tem of the state senate. Governor Richardson was given an award for his support of filmmaking in New Mexico, after which he presented the Bill Richardson Film Achievement Awards to Wes Studi and, posthumously, Greer Garson.
