The Amma Center of New Mexico held The Auction of Compassion on April 1, 2004. The event was hosted by actress, Ali MacGraw at The La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe New Mexico. Live Indian music and dance was featured and Authentic South India Cuisine was served. Over $70,000 was raised for Amma's Tsunami Relief efforts in South India & Sri Lanka.

Amma, a humanitarian from Kerala India, began her relief efforts within hours of the tsunami striking India, organizing food, shelter and medical care for tens of thousands of survivors. A week later Amma committed $23 million to rebuild homes and communities along both coastlines of India. On February 16, after a visit to Sri Lanka, Amma committed another $700 thousand to rebuild homes in that devastated island nation. Her disciples and volunteers currently serve 20,000 meals, three times a day, at 24 relief centers.

Amma has built hundreds of schools, orphanages, hospitals and homes for the poor.

In 2003 Amma was presented with the prestigious Gandhi-King Award for her humanitarian contributions to the world. Previous winners of this award were Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan.

Her charitable organization is run on a strictly volunteer basis so all money donated to her Tsunami Relief Project and other charitable activities go directly to their intended recipients.
